"HOSS"

Q:How did you decide on "The Silverado Band" as a name?
A: I am a solid CHEVY man, I always wanted a SILVERADO pick up. Back in the day Chevy had several full size pickups from the plain Jane C-10 to the Cheyenne, Scottsdale then finally the top of the line SILVERADO. so as far as I was concerned the Silverado was the best of the best. A long time ago, In about 1993 someone was trying to tell me about AMWAY. As part of their spiel they asked me "If money was no object what vehicle would you buy yourself?" They were trying to get me to dream big, and was expecting Cadillac, Porsche, Mercedes, BMW etc.. I told them a SILVERADO pickup. This seemed to upset them a little and they admonished me to think BIGGER. I told him again a SILVERADO and he let it go, he then "In his presentation" named my dream company "SILVERADO"
In 1997 the Club owner of the Desperado Club in Huntsville, where I Dee Jayed, Bounced, and did Karaoke, approached me about starting a "House Band" He would furnish the equipment, and we would play there every other weekend, sometimes with guest singers or doing "Live Karaoke". We played our 1st show there as the Desperado Band, opening up for Lobo Loggins in May of 1997, using Lobo's equipment. The next day I approached the owner about equipment, He said we were to play through the DJ booth. Well anyone who knows much about sound knows this wouldn't work, His DJ equipment was old and only had 2 mike inputs. when I told him this wasn't adequate, he more ore less said too bad, PLUS he wanted 20% of anything we did outside his club for the use of his name. That was the end of "HOSS & The Desperado's" The band had lost its Lead guitarist 4 days before opening day and went 3 piece, we gathered the following Monday to regroup, and rename ourselves. Now going back to the beginning of this answer, what the AMWAY guy did (though he never signed me up) was to put an Idea in my head and The Silverado Band was born.

Q: Why do they call you "HOSS"?
A: I'm a big guy. I as over 200 lbs. my Freshman year at Kountze High school. But oddly enough size wasn't the main contributing factor in getting the name "HOSS" . I was in the Army back during the "Cold War" and spent a lot of my time as a "Reaction Force" team member on the Czech border with West Germany. The reaction force was a small group that were "First Responders" to any border issues that cropped up. The team was 6 men with 2 Fully uploaded Armored Personnel Carriers or "tracks",that went out ready for action within 15 minutes of being "Alerted" we did not get undressed or disarm ourselves for our 3 day shift. We then handed it over to a second team that did a 3 day shift then, my team took back over etc. When our team was formed we were trying to decide who would ride in which vehicle, sometimes we'd ride for hours through the countryside to our objective. On the trip often music was played over our intercom, as it happened there were 3 guys who preferred Rock N Roll and 3 who liked country. This determined which "track" we rode in. The "rockers" as we called them had nick names Sting, Kiss and VanHalen, we were named Adam, Hoss, and Little Joe. I was "HOSS". When I started to DJ many years later at the Desperado Club in Huntsville I needed a catchy moniker, I remembered my old Army call sign and called myself "DJ Hoss". Well it stuck, and carried over to the stage name I now have

SONG STORIES

ONWARD

I really wanted to write another Veterans tribute song, and had a few in the works, One day while working at on the Grounds at the VA cemetery for my employer TRUGREEN, a group of people came to put flowers on a new grave, one man in his 50s dropped to his knees crying, this touched me. I finished up my work and made it back to the shop . I told Steve Mueller, my boss what I had seen. The next day he told me I should write a song, about a Father speaking to his fallen son Graveside. I pulled upon my own feelings as a father, my experience with my old job as "County Veterans Service Officer", and advice from my sister-in- law Suzanne to come up with this "almost" Gospel song about a fallen hero and the lessons learned from seeing this exchange between father and son

WENT BY THE CEMETARY THE OTHER DAY
YOU KNOW THE ONE, RIGHT BY THE VA
SAW A MAN ON BENDED KNEE
RIGHT NEAR A FRESH DUG GRAVE,
HE WAS ABOUT MY AGE
LISTENED CLOSELY AND HEARD HIM SAY

SON, YOU’LL NEVER KNOW HOW PROUD I AM,
YOU BECAME SUCH A MAN
DID THE THINGS THAT OTHERS WOULDN’T DO
NOW I’LL LIVE MY LIFE
TRYING TO BE WORTHEY OF THE SACRIFICE
GIVEN TO ALL OF US BY YOU

(CHORUS)

NOW ONWARD CHRISTIAN SOLDIER,
TO YOUR FINAL REWARD
PLEASE PUT IN A GOOD WORD FOR ME
WHEN YOU MEET THE LORD
NOW ONWARD CHRISTIAN SOLDIER,
TO YOUR FINAL REWARD
PLEASE PUT IN A GOOD WORD FOR ME
WHEN YOU MEET THE LORD

YOUR MOTHER’S GLAD WE RAISED YOU RIGHT
WITH LOVE OF COUNTRY AND FAITH IN CHRIST
TAKES COMFORT KNOWING YOU ARE WITH THE LORD
AS FOR ME I MISS MY YOUNG MAN
MAD AS HELL AT THOSE WHO WON’T UNDERSTANDY
OU DIED TO KEEP EVIL FROM OUR SHORES

(CHORUS).

I LEFT THAT DAY A DIFFERENT MAN
NOW I THINK I FINALLY UNDERSTAND
JUST WHAT IT COSTS TO MAKE US FREE
SO TO ALL OF THOSE WHO’VE GONE BEFORE
WHO DIED FOR FREEDOM IN OUR WARS
WITH UTMOST REVERANCE I SING

I LEFT THAT DAY A DIFFERENT MAN
NOW I THINK I FINALLY UNDERSTAND
JUST WHAT IT COSTS TO MAKE US FREE
SO TO ALL OF THOSE WHO’VE GONE BEFORE
WHO DIED FOR FREEDOM IN OUR WARS
WITH UTMOST REVERANCE I SING

(CHORUS) (CHORUS)
